Crossover set debuts this July at SDCC

We’ve learned to expect the unexpected at San Diego Comic Con, and this year G.I. Joe and Transformers fans have an all-new set to celebrate. It’s the fourth set in a series of exclusive products that re-imagine G.I. Joe vehicles as their Transformers equivalents. In 2011, Decepticon Seeker Starscream scanned a Skystriker jet and teamed up with Cobra Commander. In 2012, Destro climbed aboard a devastating H.I.S.S. tank that was really Decepticon Shockwave in disguise. In 2013, the Autobots fought back, with Jetfire taking a Skystriker mode with Hound providing support as a classic G.I. Joe VAMP, all while Snake Eyes fought off the Baroness, Bludgeon and Ravage.

This all-new set features Autobot Powerglide in the familiar form of a Rattler jet but in his signature red colors. He teams up with Scarlett to take on Zartan and Soundwave, who has scanned into a H.I.S.S. tank but retained his signature cannons. G.I. Joe and Transformers fans are kindred spirits, as the modern franchises launched close to each other in 1982 and 1984, and the popular animated series often ran back-to-back in the 1980s. These two franchises have crossed over several times in comic books as well and will again in IDW’s upcoming “Revolution” storyline.

The prototype for this set will be available for viewing at the official G.I. Joe Collector’s convention June 16th-19th in Loveland, Colorado and the set itself will be available for purchase at San Diego Comic Con July 21st-24th.
